Reporting to the Associate General Counsel Commercial & Licensing who sits in London, the role of the Coty Legal Counsel is to provide day-to-day support to the Luxury and Consumer Beauty Divisions on legal matters pertaining to the development, marketing, and sales of its cosmetic, fragrance and skincare products.




Works closely as a business partner primarily with the European, African, and Asian global marketing and commercial teams. This position requires working collaboratively with other lawyers in the different functions around the world, as well as cross-functionally (e.g., with R&D, Q&A, Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Affairs, Procurement and Finance) within Coty to provide legal advice on a variety of matters including marketing, sales, dealing with regulatory bodies, handling regulatory investigations, and running litigation matters. 


  • Primarily, the role will be to serve as a strategic, solutions-oriented business partner to the marketing and sales teams in supported regions. 


  • Typical legal work will include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of contracts including but not limited to, distribution, retail, and travel retail agreements, talent, sponsorship, promotion and marketing, influencer, music, agency, e-commerce, and licensing agreements.


  • Additional responsibilities will include providing EU regulatory advice, related to marketing claims and product regulations, as well as overseeing various litigation matters.


  • Conduct trainings to internal employees on compliance with local legislation, EU applicable laws (such as Vertical Block Exemption Regulation, Guidelines on Vertical Restraints, EU Directive on unfair business-to-consumer commercial practices, claims substantiation and Coty internal policies.


  • Provide high quality legal advice and counsel in a timely manner to a wide array of business and operational colleagues on matters including but not limited to sales and anti-trust / competition laws, regulatory, claims substantiation, product labelling, marketing, and advertising, intellectual property, litigation, privacy and data protection.


  • Manage and work with outside counsel in a variety of matters including claims substantiation, risk assessment, regulatory update and litigations.


  • Perform other departmental duties as needed.





  • Minimum of five 5 years’ commercial law experience acquired at a global law firm.
  • Ideally has acquired experience of working in the luxury, cosmetics, pharmaceutical or consumer goods sector either within private practice or as an in- house lawyer.
  • Has advised on Intellectual Property matters, competition law and claims substantiation
  • Has managed disputes and litigation
