Summary


The R&D DIRECTOR is leading a R&D product development team and a network of internal stakeholders in charge of building innovation strategy, delivering & executing formula developments for Luxury Brands (Gucci, Burberry).

 

The role has a significant impact throughout the product launch with responsibility for delivering on time in full, at the right cost and quality levels.

 

This position works closely with Third Party Manufacturers (TPM) and internal stakeholders such as Coty Make up laboratories, Packaging Development, Initiative leaders, Procurement and Quality based in different locations (US, China, Europe).

He/She will have to partner with Marketing to build the Strategic Innovation Masterplan

 

The position requires 10 years experience on  :

  • Product development on color cosmetics including formula development and industrialization
  • Partnership with Marketing teams
  • Project & team management

with a strong knowledge of Color Cosmetics TPM environment.
 

Representative activities

 

Team & project management

  • Lead and manage a teams of 5 managers/scientists (daily people management and development, technical support, trainings, coaching, year-end performance)
  • Play the role of technical consultant for his/her teams, but also for external partners
  • Lead project discussions with key stakeholders (brands, R&D corporate, quality, procurement etc.) and be an R&D liaison between brands, operations, and global R&D functions
  • Represent R&D at Senior Management level
  • Ensure Regulatory and Safety Compliancy of formulas by collaborating with R&D corporate functions
  • Build and manage test design (microbiology, safety, clinical, consumer) with his/her teams
  • Contribute Build, design and review claims with marketing, global R&D functions, and Legal teams
  • Keep improving current ways of working, new processes, and systems
  • Keep maintaining and improving existing databases (formula ID cards, TPM ID Cards, raw materials, SAPRD)
  • Manage budget (build, forecast, follow-up, report)
  • Build a strong understanding of Luxury key competitors

 

 

Partnering with Marketing :

  • Co-Build innovation strategy with brands & ensure the delivery of the Innovation Master Plan

 

TPM :

  • Ensure tech scouting activities with Global R&D team & Procurement
  • Enable his/her teams co-design formulas with TPMs by providing the right level of information (texture brief, blacklists, formulation guidelines) and drive formula development progresses
  • Keep building and maintaining TPM capability mapping 

 

 

Required education and experience

 

Minimum Education and Years of Relevant Experience.

  • Postgraduate degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering – Masters
  • Technical knowledge in color cosmetics, knowledge in packaging is a plus
  • Min. 10 years relevant experience in Product Development in Color Cosmetics working in close partnership with Marketing and multi-functional & global team (R&D experts, Packaging, Procurement, Quality, Initiative leaders, TPM) = Project Management skills
  • Strong knowledge of TPM environment
  • Strong ownership, accountability and demonstrated leadership ability
  • Flexibility, Responsiveness, Curiosity, Team Spirit, Resilience, Hands-on
  • A well organized and methodical approach to work
  • A passion for Color Cosmetic is key
