THE ROLE :

 

It’s an exciting time to join Coty skin care efforts at the moment.

With the turnaround being in progress on Lancaster and the expansion to fast growing ultra premium segment with the brand Orveda, Coty is now focusing a lot of its efforts and ressources in building a strong & solid skin care business.

So do we in CMI where we are investing in helping the team grow their knowledge and human centricity.

This person will be responsible for driving consumer centric decision making in the Skincare category, by providing strategic and tactical insights (consumer, market, retail) using primary and secondary research, knowledge and expertise.

She/He will work hand in hand with Skin care SVP & VP on their relative business questions and will act as a support for any skin care related category matter, ultimately the Luxury Division CMO, CCO and President, to drive our brands in growth directions.

Your mission will be to fuel both marketing/development teams and trade/commercial ones. Answering all the questions and needs they could have.

Your role will also consist in strengthening and assuring a long-term partnership with key stakeholders,

  1. Our internal 360 experts: media, e.commerce, social commerce, R&D… making sure consumer centricity is at the center of everything they’re doing/building.
  2. Our licensors (Orveda), making sure they understand & agree in our strategy. For this, you’ll assure regular presentation and debriefs and help your team to prepare all Top to Top meetings. 

The director will be responsible not only to deliver timely insights on specific projects, but also to support broader strategic thinking on Skin Care, and its usage by current, lapsed and prospect users.

You will use varied methodologies and explore multiple sources of insights (consumers, shopper & analytics) to build strong synthesis & actionable recommendations for our brands and for the global CMI team.   

You will achieve success in the role by activating a robust understanding of the consumers/ shoppers, of markets and competition to fuel growth and drive innovation, while carefully monitoring our brands’ image and hero products.es and Responsibilities:

Your key areas of responsibility will be the following -independently or under the supervision of the Luxury CMI & Strategy SVP

  • Be the objective consumer and customer expert and ensure that marketing teams take into account consumers and their needs, both current and future, in their plans
  • Provide with category strategic framework at worldwide level : analytics, brands performances, category & products trends, category long term evolution, white space identification
  • Support our Paris based brands marketing teams by providing Category market & Competitive Insights, Panels data, consumer data, U&A learnings, competitive models, and all the New Product Development pipeline research validation. Act as a strategic partner                                             
  • Translate research and information across sources into actionable insights
  • Design and execute global qualitative and quantitative exploratory and evaluative research 
    • Translate Marketing objectives into appropriate methodologies
    • Manage studies from questionnaire/screener design through to reporting
    • Maintain project schedules and communicate to marketing / external teams
    • Manage logistics
    • Create actionable reports with business implications, provide recommendations
    • Present the results to relevant stakeholders, facilitate discussions

 

  • Develop & deploy key market analysis tools within the organization (country insights reports, US skin care newsletter)
  • Link between global & local teams to maximize pertinence of brands’ strategy & initiatives
  • Accompany the brand teams in building strong concepts (both at brand & product levels)
  • Install new methodology/processes at company’s level (skin care BUTs)

 

  • Maximize the added value of existing sources, conduct desk research, identify gaps and provide recommendations on additional information sources
  • Manage, exploit (extract insights) and develop in-house databases and tracking tools
  • Manage vendor choice, development, relationships, contract negotiations and evaluations
  • Manage budget

 

 

One of your key mission will be also to manage a 1 people team, making sure each they develop themselves at best.

In this full-time role, you will report into the CMI Luxury & Strategy SVP, based in Paris.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring professional expertise in global consumer and market insights, in addition to a strong analytic expertise. A strong understanding and application of evidence-based marketing principles is necessary but curiosity for long and middle terms social, cultural and economic changes will make a difference.
We are looking for professional further build their expertise for driving strategic insights into business decision making, preferably in the beauty and / or luxury industries (Cosmetics, Skin care, Fragrance …) but not exclusively. An experience in skin care is a clear +.

Experience on driving both Analytics & insights, at global and local level, with proven agility in managing complex project work, and understanding principles of panel tools are appreciated

You are positive, constructive and curious for the world around you. Your desire to better understand real-life consumers is necessary. You must be a strong team player within the Global CMI team, eager to learn with others. It is important to keep an open mind on newness and innovation to make sure your strategic thinking on beauty consumers and the beauty industry reflect the changes of times. You will consider our internal clients’ needs as a priority while managing longer term strategic projects and nourish our leaders both in Paris and New York.

 

Key Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • 10 years+ agency or FMCG experience, preferably on a number of brands within Beauty –in qual and/or quant techniques (inc, neuro science, semiotics, Statistics…), with a proven ability to manage complex questions.
  • Business sense to ensure actionability of results   
  • Solid curiosity for consumers and category dynamics.
  • Good written and oral communication skills to prepare and present tactical and strategic projects
  • Knowledge and expertise in a range of ad hoc market research techniques, particularly: Innovation pipeline (Concept development, product testing, Claim testing), Advertising development, Shopper research, Syndicated research (NPD)
  • Ability to leverage / integrate existing data sets when information is not available
  • Experience of working with suppliers to ensure actionable results, on time, best cost

  • Project management: Organized, structured and always have an overview of all the deliverables. You know how to bring multiple projects to a successful ending within the given timeframe.
  • Ability to drive clarity and Agility: you get energized by the opportunity to drive clarity for the team, you are quick to adapt as new information becomes available.
