Becoming a Commercial Counsel at Coty is a great opportunity to provide day-to-day support to the Luxury and Consumer Beauty brands on legal matters pertaining to the development, marketing, and sales of its cosmetic, fragrance and skincare products and to support the Coty senior leadership team for the French entity on a broad range of commercial and regulatory matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As our Commercial Counsel, you will work closely as a business partner primarily with the European, African, and Asian global marketing and commercial teams.

This position requires working collaboratively with other lawyers in the different functions around the world, as well as cross-functionally (e.g., with R&D, Q&A, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Procurement and Finance) within Coty to provide legal advice on a variety of matters including marketing, sales, dealing with regulatory bodies, handling regulatory investigations, overseeing and assisting on litigation matters. 

Your main focus:

• Primarily, the role will be to serve as a strategic, solutions-oriented business partner to the marketing and sales teams in supported regions for a variety of brands, both licensed and Coty-owned. 
• Typical legal work will include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of contracts including but not limited to, distribution, retail, and travel retail agreements, talent (model, photographer, director etc.), sponsorship, promotion and marketing, influencer, music, agency, e-commerce, licensing agreements and procurement contracts, as well as the legal review of the marketing campaigns and all kind of promotional assets
• Additional responsibilities will include providing EU regulatory advice (notably to French ARPP, ASA in the UK, claims substantiations), related to marketing claims and product regulations, as well as overseeing various litigation matters. This includes keeping abreast of the latest legal developments on these subjects, and taking part to training courses that may be offered, notably by the FEBEA (trade union in the cosmetic industry for manufacturers operating in France).
• Conduct trainings to internal employees on legal topics including pricing practices, dawn raids, claims substantiation notably in matters related to green claims, and Coty internal policies) AI development.
• Provide high quality legal advice and counsel in a timely manner to a wide array of business and operational colleagues on matters including but not limited to marketing, regulatory, claims substantiation, advertising, litigation, competition law and digital.
• Manage and work with outside counsels in a variety of matters including risk assessment, regulatory updates, litigations and perform other departmental duties as needed.

YOU ARE A COTY FIT

You like working with various stakeholders, as our Commercial Counsel, you have a strong ability to prioritize and manage a wide range of topics and you get energy from working in a fast-paced, diverse and international environment. Other than that, you:

• Have acquired a minimum of 3 - 5 years’ commercial law experience at a global law firm, ideally have acquired experience of working in the luxury, cosmetics, pharmaceutical or consumer goods sector either within private practice or as an in-house lawyer
• Have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, in French and in English
• Are a good collaborator: team player and humble, you are adaptable, flexible and respond well to feedback and change. Passionate, enthusiastic you have fun in work achievement
• Proactively seek improvement, you are a solution provider and a problem solver, and you escalate issues before they become problems. You think strategically and can analyse complex legal and policy issues from a commercial perspective
