SENIOR DIRECTOR TECHNICAL ACCOUNTING

COTY is seeking for a trusted finance leader who brings deep technical accounting expertise and the ability to drive clarity

The Senior Director Technical Accounting is responsible for Coty’s the accounting lifecycle from accounting research, analysis of setting and setting accounting assumptions to overseeing the external valuation’s specialist work and drafting of footnotes in the consolidated financial statements of Coty. It is considered a senior level position within the organization, contributing significantly to senior level decision making.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for a technical accounting professional who is motivated by the challenge to manage complex matters. The role is the primary contact of all technical accounting matters, and therefore is a strategic advisor to the finance leadership team, investor relations, tax, treasury and legal. The position reports to the SVP Group Controlling and leads a team of four.

 

THE ROLE

 

This role is responsible for:

 

  • Managing any material new U.S. GAAP standards changes and the related implementations, including but not limited to creating new policies and accounting white papers, relevant trainings, collaborating closely with local finance teams to provide accurate information ensuring appropriate disclosure within our public filings   
  • Providing relevant updates of the changes to the key stakeholders such as the Divisional Finance teams, Investor Relations, the Tax and FPA teams on potential impacts on their responsibilities.
  • Leading the preparation of accounting section in the Audit and Finance Committee presentation and highly contributing to the review of the wider presentation to ensure consistency and clarity.
  • Owning the quarterly and annual impairment process, by coordinating with the divisional FPA and Brand Finance teams on the preparation of the Plan and Strat Plan and then supervising the valuation work of the external valuation specialists.
  • Performing an overall review of the quarterly and annual financial statements. Additionally, the team is responsible for preparing and supporting the reconciliations of the statement of changes in equity and statement of comprehensive income.
  • Supporting the divisional teams in addressing audit requests related to impairments to ensure consistent responses with appropriate support to timely address potential audit concerns.
  • Providing guidance to the worldwide accounting teams by reviewing new contracts such as sale/terminations of brand licenses or material rebate arrangements and providing accounting guidance.
  • Provide accounting guidance to the corporate legal, M&A, treasury, tax and executive compensation teams related to proposed/actual transactions. 
  • Responsible to provide accounting comments on design of unique equity compensation arrangements.
  • Implement new equity compensation plans for the Company including additional valuation and accounting process to address the complexities of valuing company stock and options.
  • Closely collaborating with the Director of M&A and Integration by providing advice and guidance on evaluating and accounting for new business development opportunities, business integrations and tax planning strategies.
  • Complete technical accounting issue research, provide technical US GAAP accounting guidance to subsidiary and corporate personnel, prepare and review accounting assertion memos for concurrence with external audit firm. 
  • Responsible for financial policy administration – establishment, update, and communication of the Corporate Finance section of the Finance manual as well as training of personnel in such policies. 
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with established policies. 
  • Document and comply with SOX controls supporting quarterly public filings.
  • Participate in special projects sponsored by senior management.
  • Drive leadership excellence across the technical accounting organization by developing talent, managing performance, and enabling the team to scale with Coty’s evolving business complexity.

 

 QUALIFICATIONS

 

We are interested to consider candidates who have:

 

Essential:

  • Proven track record in technical accounting and SEC reporting within a public company and/or Big 4 environment
  • Deep US GAAP expertise, demonstrating complex accounting judgements and valuation-related topics.
  • Flexibility and ability to quickly research and conclude on accounting for transactions as an M&A transaction is occurring.
  • Proven experience in working with Audit Committees, external auditors, and senior level stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt leadership and working style to various level stakeholders from executive to operating level within a global organization and third-party organizations.
  • Ability to establish a strong, trusted relationship within the organization to achieve their objectives by providing timely, high-quality advice, as an accounting and business advisor.
  • Ability to lead and work independently driving a stretch target
  • Ability to prioritize and manage various tasks simultaneously.
  • Lead through example by developing further the team ensuring career development and succession within the team.

Base Salary Range: $200,000-240,000
