We are currently looking for a Sr. Scientist to join our thriving global color cosmetics Eye R&D team to design, create and execute new eye products that deliver superior and desirable consumer benefits.  The scientist will be accountable for delivering the formula related technical readiness milestones throughout the launch timeline.  They will also work closely with the principal scientist and manager to ensure proof of performance and R&D deliverables are met.      

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Develop formulas that deliver superior consumer performance on time while providing regular updates to manager.
• Technical method development and design/execution of rheological, physical, and mechanical performance tests for characterization
• Operate laboratory equipment, follow R&D procedures, and document development and experimental results
• Test and document formula or integrated product performance and stability results to implement optimization
• Proper understanding of claims articulation, amplification, and validation to help define product design opportunities and technical solutions.
• Leverage consumer insights, conduct competitive landscaping and be familiar with databases.
• Interact with raw material vendors and other industry representatives to enable formula development that meets consumer and business needs
• Project management within Stage Gate process for new product development and deliver key milestones.
• Aptitude and agility to learn how to creatively translate consumer needs and insights into technical parameters and approaches via brainstorming and the implementing of innovative solutions.
• Leverage knowledge of technical parameters to deliver the consumer performance with a strong understanding of the chemistry and ingredient functions
• Ability to work and negotiate well across R&D functions (process, analytical, packaging, sensory and claims testing, etc..) as well as multi-disciplinary teams (marketing, product & market research, legal, etc.)  to enable and drive projects forward.
• Comply with all company policies, procedures, safety, and GMP

We’d love to see candidates who have:

Essential:

• B.S. in Chemistry or related science field, M.S. degree desired
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in R&D beauty and/or personal care. with a focus on surfactant, emulsion chemistry, and/or rheology.  Experience with pigment technology a plus. 
• Understanding of consumer product development and ability to bring concept to life
• Understanding of brainstorming and the implementing creative solutions. 
• Experience in formula design and development in an R&D environment, process scaleup experience a plus
• Technical knowledge in chemistry and raw materials, particularly natural ingredients, and colorants
• Perform good experimental execution, data collection, and documentation
• Strong communication and organization skills
• Innovative and creative thinker who can work independently.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with an innate curiosity
• Ability to collaborate and evolve in a fast-paced matrix environment

Physical Demands/Requirements

• Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time
• Ability to occasionally travel to assigned regions - domestic and internationally.  This will require frequent sitting for an extended period of time
• Ability to routinely follow policies and procedure related to company practices and safety procedures
• Ability to operate various office equipment and/or machinery

• Ability to perform assigned work hours and work periodic overtime in order to meet the job responsibilities of the role
• Individual will be exposed to working in or around a lab environment with various equipment, machinery, and chemicals.  Safety precautions must be adhered to and followed at all times
