SENIOR SCIENTIST

R&D PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT – MORRIS PLAINS, NJ

“The R&D Product Development Scientist” will work with the current team to deliver robust, innovative, on-brand and high-quality products. We build brands to inspire and enable our consumers to experience the confidence and joy of expressing their beauty, their way. You will be performing work requiring the application of knowledge in cosmetic chemistry in order to develop products for our Fragrance & Body Care brands.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Developing formulas based upon R&D Briefs received from Marketing or due to Regulatory mandates.
• Accountable for and leads and defines scope for assigned projects.
• Accurately preparing laboratory batches, conducting stability testing, and performing analysis on stability results.
• Initiating and recording all other formula testing, including microbiological, safety and claims testing.
• Communicating directly with individuals throughout the Coty organization as well as Third Party Manufacturers to obtain and disseminate relevant project information.
• Coordinates with the Process Development team for Pilot Batch timing. If needed, coordinate bulk for compatibility testing.
• Coordinating claims requests with the Claims Manager, including providing samples for testing.
• Securing all PIF (Produce Information File) required documentation and attaching it into R&D SAP Database.
• Issues all formula related paperwork such as Pilot and Final Batch Cards, Claims sheets, and uploads Ingredient Listings into INCI Library.
• Completing projects in a timely and effective fashion. Updates supervisor on current projects on a regular basis.
• Meets with Raw material vendors to explore new ingredients, alternates, or new claims such as Vegan, CFI, and % Naturality.
• Assisting in developing solutions to a wide range of complex problems that require ingenuity and creativity.
• Complying with all Company policies and procedures, including confidentiality and good laboratory practices.

We’d love to see candidates who have:

Essential:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related Science, and 5+ years technical related experience in the cosmetic or personal care products industry.
• Utilizes good judgment and makes timely, practical, and technically sound decisions.
• Excellent analytical and product management skills.
• Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.

Desirable:

• Demonstrates high-level of team spirit and willingness to be flexible and agile.
• Fluency in English, any other language is a plus.
