BACKGROUND TO THE ROLE
As a member of the Consumer and Category Insights team, the Category Insights Manager will lead category relationships with key retail partners. Interfacing with Customers and lead co-development of category growth strategies.
This role will work closely with Consumer and Category Insights, Commercial Excellence, Sales and Marketing to identify, develop and deliver strategies that will grow Coty brands. In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence and lead cross-functional projects, with the objective of unlocking growth for our brands, our categories, and our retail partners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will:
- Lead and support the wider insights team on key selected projects and business questions
- Be the direct interface and category management point of contact with Customers.
- Own the understanding of category opportunities through optimal category, range, layout for retailers.
Core Category Management responsibilities:
- To identify and develop strategies that will grow the Colour Cosmetics & Fragrance categories overall – resulting in a win for our Shoppers, a win for our Retailers and a win for our Brands.
- Together with Consumer Insights and Commercial Excellence, work from the consumer/shopper insight to identify category opportunities and translate into winning customer activation.
- To contribute to yearly category growth strategies which identify clear actionable levers for category growth.
- To adapt category strategies into tactics that are relevant for each our key Customers – such as shelf strategy, assortment optimization, SKU productivity recommendations, etc.
- To support in the delivery of standard Range Review activities for key customers by consolidating key sources of information (such as market data and shopper data).
- To work closely with the Sales team in developing strategies to drive our brand performance
- To build strong working partnerships with retailer counterparts, demonstrating a strong understanding of their strategy, and identifying opportunities and challenges
- To deliver monthly reporting trackers for retailer performance
- To identify and analyse key competitor activity and report / track competitor performance
- Reporting line will be into Head of Category Insights.
EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience. Tertiary education (eg. University or similar) not required if you have relevant experience.
- Previous experience with core systems (or similar) a plus: Market data (Nielsen or IRI), Household panel (Kantar WorldPanel, Nielsen, GfK), Shopper data (Boots Ad Card, Dunnhumby, SIP).
- Ability to utilize both internal and syndicated data systems and access, interpret and draw accurate conclusions / insights to make the case for a course of action or decision
- Ability to leverage the analyses of a variety of sources of data to develop solid, actionable recommendations that address specific goals/objectives and challenges
- Proven experience building positive working relationships and working successfully in cross-functional teams. Collaborates easily with others, sharing information and adapts to different working styles
- Acts with sense of urgency to address customer needs and accomplish goals whilst keeping the consumer/shopper at the heart of decision-making
- Ability to work independently and strong sense of individual accountability. Works with fair level of autonomy, is able to prioritise, but knows when to escalate problems
- Passionate about Beauty and market trends
- Category expertise in beauty a plus but not required
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- Strong task management capabilities to manage multiple tracks of work and requirements
- Strong Communication & influencing skills with acute ability to know when and how to communicate with your stakeholders, flexing your style where appropriate. Is comfortable standing in front of an audience and with storytelling
- Fully proficient in standard IT packages.
- Advanced Excel user essential for the role
- High degree of numeracy and analysis
- Experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously / multi-tasking
- Is resilient and flexible, adapts to new challenges
