R&D Product Development Scientist – Fragrance
Location : Versoix
The R&D Product Development Scientist – Fragrance leads both lab formulation and end‑to‑end project ownership.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As our R&D Product Development Scientist – Fragrance, you are responsible for formulation, documentation, coordination.
You will develop and reformulate fragrance products in line with Coty’s innovation and regulatory briefs. You’ll manage lab operations and project documentation, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality standards across multiple concurrent initiatives.
Your main focus :
Formulate & Reformulate
- Prepare laboratory batches and perform complex blending of raw materials and fragrances.
- Color‑match juices and adjust rheology/appearance to target standards.
- Execute iterative reformulations for cost, quality, and regulatory changes.
- Maintain parallel workstreams (up to ~20 formulas) with clear priorities.
- Meet deliverables against briefs while ensuring formula robustness over time.
Test & Analyze
- Conduct stability testing (e.g., temperature cycling, centrifugation) and analyze separation/appearance changes.
- Initiate microbiological, safety, and claims testing; track outcomes and implications.
- Interpret data, draw conclusions, and recommend next steps with sound technical judgment.
- Guide lab technicians on batchmaking and stability reads.
- Document root causes and corrective actions for out‑of‑spec results.
Document & Comply
- Record all lab actions and data in Coty’s R&D tools with high precision.
- Create and disseminate Batch Cards, Manufacturing Instructions, Specifications, Ingredient Listings.
- Complete dossier documentation and raw material coding in alignment with procedures.
- Adhere to GLP, safety, and confidentiality requirements.
- Maintain impeccable lab notebooks: results, conclusions, decisions, and next steps.
Scale‑Up & Transfer
- Lead pilot trials and factory scale‑ups; optimize process parameters with Operations.
- Troubleshoot scale‑up gaps between bench and plant; adjust formula/process as needed.
- Partner with Procurement/Supply to secure materials and alternatives.
- Validate manufacturability, quality, and cost‑effectiveness of new formulas.
- Prepare plants with clear instructions and readiness checks for launch.
Coordinate & Communicate
- Plan experiments, sequence activities, and manage timelines across multiple initiatives.
- Interface with GMKT, Initiative Management, Supply Chain, Procurement, Regulatory, and Quality.
- Meet with raw material vendors to scout and assess novel ingredients.
- Provide regular project updates to Senior Manager and stakeholders.
- Proactively identify innovation opportunities and run proof‑of‑concepts.

YOU ARE A COTY FIT
You like to formulate, analyze data, and drive projects to the finish line. As an experienced R&D Product Development Scientist – Fragrance, you prioritize effectively, switch contexts quickly, and own outcomes with autonomy, and you get energy from working in a fast-paced, diverse, and international environment. Other than that, you:
- Hold a degree in a related science and bring 1–5 years’ formulation experience
- Demonstrate hands‑on cosmetic/fragrance (or adjacent, e.g., coatings/paints) formulation and lab skills.
- Execute stability, microbiology/safety initiation, data analysis, and rigorous lab documentation (GLP).
- Manage scale‑up/pilot transfers and troubleshoot bench‑to‑plant differences with cross‑functional teams
- Communicate fluently in English and are proficient with MS Office and data/reporting tools
