We are looking for a Specialist, HR & Payroll to join our fast-paced and evolving North America HR team. The primary responsibilities will be to manage the day-to-day HR & Payroll administration in Canada, reporting into HR & Total Rewards leads for North America, based in the USA. In addition, this person will execute additional HR responsibilities that expand over the entire North America group, for example HRIS and compensation-related processes. The Canadian payroll functions include but are not limited to preparing payroll load files, processing changes in Power Pay (Ceridian), running test registers, auditing payroll activity, preparing monthly vouchers and journal entries, and regular reporting and year-end processing.



  • As part of the HR & Payroll team, manage bi-weekly payroll and day-to-day HR administration for approximately 50 employees in Canada.
  • Support the HR transition project through reporting and data validation, testing, and other effective project support.
  • Input all payroll changes, note missing data and proactively clarify issues.
  • Ensure that employee changes are entered correctly and made on a timely basis and provide supporting documentation to manager.
  • Implement payroll audits as necessary to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Create and encourage strong partnerships with internal and external partners, best-in-class employee support, and adherence to compliance.
  • Supports end-of-year and new year requirements
  • Manage Canada new hire process by partnering with recruitment and managers.
  • Manage assigned HR and Total Rewards projects and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with HR, Benefits, Accounting and Finance teams for payroll-related concerns.
  • Provide best-in-class and trusted partnership to employees and responding to incoming calls, e-mails, mail and in-person requests in appropriate time, usually within 24 hours.
  • Designs end-user friendly processes, guidelines and documentation
  • Comply with company policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Provide back-up support to other HR team members as needed
  • Have a strong understanding of Wella organization design to perform frequent audit & reporting needs.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned



  • University degree or equivalent preferred; CPHR/CRHA & CPA designations
  • 3 to 5 years of combined HRIS & Payroll experience required
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian HR & payroll-related provincial employment standards and legislation is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. Able to manage difficult situations with diplomacy.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to navigate a variety of business and people circumstances with a strong sense of ethics and discretion
  • Able to successfully apply multi-tasking, prioritization, and self-motivation in a fast-paced environment with frequent disruptions and shifting priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Bi-lingual in English and French is a plus
