THE ROLE

We are looking for the future Senior Color Chemist to support the OPI Nail brand through the development of our Color Collections. This role will bring to life OPI’s color authority with flawless execution of new shades and effects in our high quality nail polish formulas.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

COLOR INNOVATION:

  • Lead the R&D development of OPI color collections with end-to-end accountability.
  • Build recommendations for shades, effects, and collections based on technical analysis of global nail market.
  • Create a competitive landscape to understand competitor’s strategy in color and identify areas of opportunity.
  • Identify relevant trends through active collaboration in the trend detection process (scouting of the emerging trends - fashion, opinion leaders, professional cosmetics exhibitions, & the web, blogs, Instagram, consumer insights, Brand and regional reviews, etc).
  • Bring new colors and effects to OPI in collaboration with our raw material suppliers and/or by identifying new pigments and color effect technologies. Initiate upstream collaborations with vendors.
  • Monitor and ensure the quality of all new products in terms of stability, compatibility, micro, safety, and regulatory requirements. Perform all relevant formula related testing.
  • Troubleshoot formula, shade and raw material issues.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A strong technical color expertise with the ability to distinguish and recognize differences in shade - Must be able to pass the Munsell test.
  • 5+ years experience in the color cosmetics industry, specifically in formulation of color products. Colorist experience. Preference for someone with a hybrid R&D/Product Development background.
  • Experience with taking color measurements, color science and Shade Modeling software (such as JMP)
  • Experience working with Third Party Manufacturers throughout the development process.
  • Must have a keen understanding of the color cosmetics category and the evolution of shade trends.
  • Artistic and creative, with the ability to explain vision to cross-functional team members.
  • Able to work in high stress situations in an environment that is action oriented and results focused.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail is required
  • Ability to multi-task and work under minimal supervision is required
  • Experience with stage gate process.
  • Must be able to prioritize, handle multiple projects, and work with various groups within a matrix organization.
  • Ability to oversee and prioritize workload for a Color Technician.
  • Passion for color and experience in nail is a plus
