We are actively looking for a Principal Scientist to join our OPI R&D team. This role will work with internal and external research teams to develop technology platforms and transition those technologies to new products for global distribution. 


  • New product development based on 3-year company launching calendar
  • In-house formulation and product evaluation
  • New technology scouting and competitive nail technology landscape
  • Strengthen and expand working relationship with key suppliers and TPMs
  • Build claims story and demos for scientific communication internally and externally
  • End-to-end project management within Stage and Gate Process as well as delivering technical readiness to set milestones, including technical briefs, communication to cross functional teams, formula evaluation, stability, safety testing, claim substantiation plan, etc.
  • Mentoring of Jr. technical staff
  • Hands on individual, GLP and organizational skills are a must
  • Foster a positive work environment and Wella values



  • Minimum MS in polymer chemistry, materials science, chemistry or related science, PhD preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant formulation & product development experience, preferably in the beauty industry
  • In house formulation and DOE experience
  • Expertise in UV cure monomer, polymer and/or coatings technologies
  • Significant record of achievement in the development and commercialization of new products
  • Strong communication skills and capable of working with multifunctional groups to move project forward
  • Team player and exhibit “can do” attitude, responding effectively to multiple demands.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment



  • Experience in Color Cosmetic Industry
  • Experience in nail formulas
