The role of the Senior Manager Scientific & Sustainability Communications is to develop and deliver compelling credentialing programs behind the technology of our products as well as drive the R&D Sustainability agenda for the Wella Company.  We take great pride in the high performance and sustainability of our products.  This role is to bring science to life in an attractive way so that stylists, consumers, and other stakeholder may appreciate the value and the sustainability of our brands and products to the fullest.

Specifically, you will have a leading role in creating and delivering credible scientific stories together with your R&D counterparts, with Marketing, Education and Corporate Communications to key internal and external stakeholders. In addition, you will lead the definition, influencing, tracking and communication of the R&D plans that will help deliver on the overall Wella Company corporate sustainability strategy.



I) Scientific communiaction

  • Effectively communicate the science behind our brands to external and internal stakeholders such as the press, scientists, clients, stylists, influencers and cross-functional Wella associates across a diverse range of events such as scientific and commercial conferences.
  • Amplify the value of our products and services by celebrating their benefits credibly and how these are achieved via compelling communication of the science behind them.
  • Support the NPD teams from the early stages to bring to life compelling technical stories that drive trial and best product experiences.
  • Elevate competence and capability of the Wella Company organization when it comes to understanding and communicating more effectively about our products, the materials and the technologies we use.  This includes articulating scientifically solid points of view when it comes to the use of high profile or controversial ingredients through clear message tracks (both technical and non-technical).

II) Sustainability

  • Significantly contribute in shaping the sustainability strategies and plans of the company from an R&D angle.
  • Define, align, and influence the execution of the R&D-driven sustainability action plan.
  • Become an influential force for Wella Company to drive the communication of good science forward to suppress greenwashing, product myths and misleading claims.
  • Lead the creation of tools and capabilities (e.g. databases and websites) aimed at driving the transparent communication of the sustainable/eco-ethical nature of the materials we use. 



  • Master in a relevant science including chemistry, chem-eng, biology, sustainable sciences, etc.  Very strong scientific foundations, infectious passion for science and sustainability.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in scientific communications, environmental sciences or sustainable engineering, life cycle management and/or technical brand management.
  • Proven track record of effectively communicating science and technology in simple and compelling ways that engage and ultimately builds the business.
  • Proven above-average ability to relate and collaborate with internal commercial functions, agencies and with external scientific and media stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.  Very strong presence.
  • Extremely competent in navigating and influencing on digital/SoMe platforms.
  • Must thrive in fast paced environments, with the ability to adapt quickly to change.
  • Internally motivated.
  • Team player with a “can do” attitude.
  • Hands on individual.
  • A passion for Beauty and a desire to be in touch with trends in the beauty industry.
