THE ROLE

The Transportation Director is key across the Wella Supply Chain organization. This position will execute a high level of management throughout the three workstreams of Transportation Planning, Projects/Freight Payments and i-Trade/Customs teams and is an operational and carrier management role.

The leader will leverage expert management skills to ensure coordination between systems, people, processes and operational metrics that drive the department towards excellence in execution. Ability to build good working relationships (internal and external) is essential with proven ability to work under pressure. This position is a key SPOC for senior leadership and participates in and implements local to global initiatives. Position will be key in developing a new transportation team.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES 

Operational

  • Manage core transportation metrics in service, cost, and key foundational systems such as quality, safety, security, and sustainability
  • Monitor and drive improvement of transportation KPIs (i.e. Pick up on time, On Time Delivery, Tender Acceptance Compliance, Cost, etc.)
  • Ensure customs KPI’s (i.e. on time clearance %, duties) are on track and customs program is in compliance with all local authorities
  • Maintain high levels of service and manage customer’s expectations whilst operating within budgetary conditions
  • Ensure high service and quality of Direct to Salon network (parcel)
  • Serve as escalation for resolution of domestic transportation, imports, exports, or any customs issues

 

People

  • Lead a new regional transportation and customs team for the new Wella company
  • Create a vision for transport team and establish goals and objectives for the team
  • Create and develop succession plans for team members
  • Provide regional support for other Americas locations including Mexico, Brazil, Argentina
  • Build collaborative relationships with cross functional teams such as DC/3PL’s, customer service, global transportation, and sales teams

 

Cost Management

  • Partner with finance team on monthly budget review process and annual budget establishment
  • Identify cost savings projects and develop, execute plans
  • Identify opportunities and implement tracking of key cost drivers such as cost per mile, cost per weight, accessorial %, and fuel %
  • Implement and maintain transportation cost to serve program
  • Monitor, track and report on the status of projects including the tracking of the committed results i.e. savings, service improvements, etc
  • Partner with freight audit and payment provider to drive improvements in payment process as needed

 

Strategic Projects & Capability

  • Co-lead with procurement the carrier network bids including supporting activities such as negotiation, strategy setting, and awarding process
  • Implement supplier relationship programs with key transport haulers including monthly KPI reviews and QBRs
  • Support large strategic initiatives including e-comm/DTC and supply network design changes
  • Partner with customer service and sales teams put in place systemic solutions to drive out any quality gaps in transport network to drive improvement in customer defect rate
  • Identify ongoing continuous process improvement ideas in areas such as freight payment process, transportation planning, sustainability, or vehicle fill rate
  • Partner with the global transportation team/COE to establish transportation and customs standards and best practices

Essentials

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Supply Chain Management (Transportation, Logistics)
  • Strong Leadership, ownership and project management skills (planning, organizing and resource allocation)
  • Previous experience with Transportation Management Systems desired
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and communicate to higher level management
  • Ability to identify systemic gaps and drive sustainable results
  • Knowledge of FTL, LTL, Parcel, ocean, and air networks
  • Strong cross functional skills and ability to work collaboratively with customer service, DC’s, supply planning, and external carrier networks
  • Demonstrated record of prioritizing, influencing and decision making at multiple levels in an organization
  • Team player, focused on total company delivery also thrives in a challenging and complex environment
  • Strong analytical skills, advanced MS Excel and presentation skills - detail driven, able to analyze and manipulate large volumes of data to identify the salient elements

 

Education/Experience:                

  • BA/BS from an accredited college or university
  • Experience of 7-10 years or greater in a logistics, supply chain, distribution center role
